ON FATIGUE STRENGTH OF ANISOTROPIC MATERIALS

Abstract

A study on the strength of materials in case of their cyclic loading within various ranges of alternating stresses is introduced. The graphical representation of relationship between the cycle average stress and the range of repeated or fluctuating stresses has been established. On the basis of a simplified limit stresses’ graph for any asymmetric cycle, a stress calculation formula is derived. Considering the deformation process as an elasto-plastic phenomenon, a Mathiе-Hill equation-type differential equation with variable constants has been obtained for a uniaxial oscillatory motion of a specimen. For a low frequency repeated cyclic load, an equation of a fatigue strength curve has been derived.
