Abstract
The main experimental methods for revealing the impact phenomena at interrupted cutting are considered, their characteristics, advantages and disadvantages are analyzed. The photoregistration method for recording the impact duration in order to reveal the effect of the impact phenomena on the performance of the cutting wedge at interrupted cutting is studied in detail. The methods of the tool and the billet initial contact fixing on the photografic film are investigated. A special attention is paid to the selection of the experiment methodology taking into account the technical characteristics of the equipment used. According to the results of experiments conducted by a specially developed technique with photographing the process of insertion, there is a drop in the cutting speed, which confirms the presence of mechanical impact during the transient process of inserting the cutting wedge into the processed material.
