Abstract
The impact of the cutting tool geometry on the roughness of the machined surface at intermittent metal cutting is investigated. It is shown that the surface roughness is considerably influenced by, in particular, the main and auxiliary angles in plan and the corner radius of the milling tooth point which should be considered at optimizing the cutting process according to the geometrical parameters of the cutting tool. It is proposed to use the multifaceted throwaway insert of rhombic shape (ТУ560-62) with the minimal tool cutting edge angles to provide high smoothness of the machined surface and increase in twice the resource utilization of the throw-away insert.
