Abstract
Description of the historical characteristics of the space formation of Yerevan is presented. The main methods of analysis are descriptive, morphological and comparative. Historical stages of the evolution, main factors of space formation, as well as roles of social, cultural, political systems on the formation of urban planning policy are classified. In the conclusion the general features of formal layers of contemporary Yerevan urban space are defined.
