Abstract
The criterias, functional peculiarities and possibilities, priority areas of the research of museum buildings were presented. The peculiarities of architectural design of museum buildings in the terms of types of museums were considered in the article. Pre images of the museums of the Republic of Armenia, the history of their formation and the classification of existing museums according to the type and character were presented.
