WOODEN CULTURAL HERITAGE. GUIDELINES, STANDARDS AND METHODS OF REPRESENTATION

Abstract

The paper will briefly examine which are the reasons, which are the themes and which are the methods of graphic representation of the information deduced from the study of artifacts belonging to the category of wooden cultural heritage. Although there are several national and international documents (technical standards, guidelines and recommendations) which emphasize the importance of survey of wooden artefacts before any intervention or even "only" for the purpose of knowledge, to date there are no indications on how unified the representation. This is certainly because the possibilities of "telling" and "explain" a woodwork (be it structure or artwork) are so numerous as to make it very difficult a codified representations mode. Nevertheless, at least on some key themes, unified labeling could be adopted for the benefit of clarity and interdisciplinary condition among the many professionals involved in the research and knowledge regarding the cultural heritage of wood.
