Abstract

National identity has always been in the close attention of scientists and researchers. Sociology is not an exception. Various sociological approaches have been designed for analyzing the national identity and the peculiarities of its construction. This article is directed towards studying the main concepts of the three basic approaches of sociology that analyze the entity, essential characteristics and peculiarities of national identity. The interrelatedness of the characteristics of national identity and the criteria for classification of sociological approaches are also observed in this article. Especially those characteristics are considered to be the main criteria of the classification of the sociological theories of national identity.
