Abstract

“Van Tosp” began publishing in 1911 in Van edited by Hovhannes Avagyan. In 1912, the edition became the official body of the Vaspurakan branch of the Armenian Constitutional Ramkavar Party. From this moment a new stage in the history of the publication begins. During the discussion of the Armenian question, as an official body of the Ramkavar, “Van-Tosp” spoke from the standpoint of moderate demands. From November 1915, the “Van-Tospa” edition was transferred to Tiflis, where Tigran Nazaryan became the chief editor, and Artak Darbinyan, executive secretary. Under current conditions, the newspaper tried to heal the wounds and consequences of the Genocide in all sectors of Armenian society with everyday hard work. After the independence of Armenia was declared, in 1919 the newspaper began to be published in Yerevan, and on September 24, 1919 it was renamed “Ayreniki Dzine” (Voice of the Fatherland). The chief editor was Artak Darbinyan, under whose leadership the newspaper dedicated itself to the establishment of democratic principles in the country.
