Abstract

 The scientific article discusses the creation and activities of the European Defense Community and the Western European Union, as well as the relationship and competition of these structures, as a supranational and intergovernmental legal regulator. The paper analyzes legal acts regulating the sphere of the common defense system of an integrating Europe of the mid-20th century. Based on the analysis of the material, the author puts forward approaches and expresses opinions on supranational and intergovernmental legal regulation in the field of the European defense system, as well as on the reasons for the failure of the proposed draft treaty of the European Defense Community and its political component - the European Political Community Project.
