Abstract

The article presents the head of a multi-volume atlas of the catalog «The monuments of Armenian architecture and place names abroad». It presents an overview of the history and development of the community, the geography of its settlement, the state of the church, education and Armenian media. The main part of the article is a table-list of Armenian monuments of architecture and toponymy in India, after which a list of literature is given. Armenians and India were familiar from ancient times. However, contacts did not lead to the emergence of any significant communities. One of the first communities that originated on the territory of the peninsula of Hindustan, we can consider the community that arose on the southern tip of the peninsula in the IV. The first mentioned in surviving written sources Armenian communities existed on the Malabar coast in Kranganor in the VIII century. The heyday of the Armenian colonies in India falls on the XVII-XVIII centuries. The impetus to the emigration wave of Armenians in the eastern direction, in particular to India was the forced migration by Shah Abbas of the population from the Persian part of Armenia to Iran in 1604-1605. Since the XIX century. the Armenian colonies of India began to fade.
