In the last quarter of XIX century, Karin town and the Armenians of the province of the same name played an important role in the national liberation struggle. In the result of the national awakening during the post-Berlinian period, several liberation groups were founded and the “Defender of the Fatherland” was the most prominent among them. On this basis, soon newly formed parties also began their political activities in Karin. Since the first years of their establishment the Armenakan (with some reservations), Hunchakian and ARF parties had embarked upon the establishment of relevant branches in Karin. With their active propaganda the Hunchakians involved in the party mainly the former members of “Defender of the Fatherland”. ARF also extended its structure and ensured high influx of devoted Eastern Armenians to the region. The parties carried out a wide range of activities in Karin and neighbouring villages actively participating in the fight of fedayis too.
