Abstract

As evidenced by recent events, the right of people’s and nations’ to self-determination was and to all appearances remains one of the most controversial issues not only in the science and international politics but also in internal policies of separate states and international political institutes. For the defenders of self-determination all the reasons are more than clear, but in science and politics is still absent a representative or even more the one and the predominant point of view of that complex and multi-vector phenomenon. In this article the author tried to structurally analyze the conception “self-determination”, to present the international-legal characteristics and classification of this and its role in the modern history.
