Abstract

One of the outstanding representatives of the thematic genre in the Armenian Soviet art was the painter Hovhannes Zardaryan. His compositions created in 1940-1950 took a pivotal place in his art. However, another composition - the “Aspiration” created in 1960 had its firm place and importance in his arts as well, while the motive of its creation and the creative process were unknown to art lovers. It was also unknown, that after his famous “Aspiration” the painter also attempted a series of paintings, which ideologically pushed forward the idea of the “Aspiration”. These series of paintings are known as “Burst” (1962-1964) where the aspiration is simply turned into an irresistible desire for burst. Alas, they were exhibited only in 1998, during Zardaryan’s maiden, post-mortem exhibition. In the creative life of the master especially the above-mentioned composition alarmed about the breaking changes that had shaped Zardaryan's unique handwriting and his exclusive personality over the years.
