Abstract

One of the most important issues of the economy development for any country is the construction of dams and reservoirs and the further development of the hydraulic-economic structures ensuring the complex use of water resources and meeting the needs of energy, irrigation, water supply, ship transportation, fisheries. However, the exploitation practice of the hydraulic structures shows that there occur ample cases of dams or other structures’ accidents conditioned by the ignorance of certain factors during their construction. The analysis of the reasons for accidents and damages in the exploitation practice of ground dams is presented, which should be taken into consideration in the further design aimed at increasing their reliability during the construction and utilization of the hydraulic structures.
