Abstract

The formation of dwellings with central fireplace and erdik popular in the Armenian highland is analyzed hereby the obvious example of which is known as “glkhatun” (a head house). Their unique similarities with Greek-Roman atrium houses and megarons are unveiled mostly expressed by the opening on the roof. Correlations of glkhatun and similar architectural constructions of Urartian, Aegean and Greek-Roman civilizations are revealed, as well as it is attempted to unravel their linguistic links.
