Abstract

The description of main points of visual qualities of the urban environment and architecture are discussed. The general objective is to establish a link among some of the evidence generated by the experimental research both in natural and social sciences, subjective environmental perception of people, and the impersonal rules applicable in the process of planning and design. Yerevan city is analyzed as a case study. It is stated that the main precondition for the satisfactory visual inputs is the hierarchy of the urban structure.
