Abstract

After the establishment of the Soviet rule, the Bolsheviks started oppression of various religious minorities existing in the country. With greater aggression, the existing government, who came into power by occupying an independent country, started dealing with the Orthodox Church. The Bolsheviks started shutting down churches and monasteries and took away the right of religious service from the clergy. The government did not abstain from dealing with other religious minorities. Catholic churches were also shut down, along with Jewish Synagogue and Armenian-Gregorian bell-tower. The similar threat came down to the Armenian Church in Shida Kartli. It is known that Armenian Church has existed in Shida Kartli since XVI century.
