Abstract
Armenian amateur theatre companies were first formed in the cities of Canada inhabited with Armenians. Back in 1962, a group of enthusiasts from
the Armenian community in Montreal established “Mamikonyan” Theatre Company with an intention to preserve the Armenian culture on a foreign land. In 1974, “Yevgine”, a drama by Shirvanzadeh, was first staged in Canada under the direction of a prominent director Selma Keklikian. Due to the intensive rehearsals and the high level of professionalism of the amateur actors, the performance was a huge success.
