Jahukian’s toponymic research occupies a special place in his linguistic heritage. In the basis of these works the talented scientist put in the first place the question of identifying the degree of relationship and other Indo-European languages, as well as the IberoCaucasian and Semitic ancient languages, the scientific substantiation of our ancestral home, the primary places of habitation, the period of separation of the Armenian language from the Indo-European community. With the help of toponymic research Jahukyan primarily restored the preliterate period of the Armenian language and formed the basis of the comparative grammar of the Armenian language. He interpreted more than 100 Armenian place names, indicating their relationship with the ancient IndoEuropean languages of the Balkan Peninsula and Asia Minor. Especially important is his toponymic research, which revealed a close relationship between the Armenian, Urartian and Hayassian onomastics.
