Abstract

Abas Bagratuni came to the throne in Armenia in the very difficult historical situation. At that time, another two "kings of Armenia" - Gagik Artsruni and
Ashot Bagratuni were acting. Gagik Artsruni was recognized as the supreme ruler in Armenia while Ashot owned some areas in the Airarat province of the Great Armenia. In 934 Ashot Bagratuni died and his domains passed to Abas. Thus, his potential was increased providing an opportunity to intervene in the affairs of neighboring states.
