Аннотация

The article stresses that Hovhan Vorotnetsy’s doctrine on the correlation between Soul and Body particularly in his work titled “Who Created their Hearts Separate” is an unprecedented phenomenon in Armenian medieval philosophy and psychology. Defending the doctrine on Soul, Vorotnetsy discusses a rich material and applies the methodology of scholastic philosophy, analyzes and criticizes different opinions of “foreign” and “local” thinkers rendering not only their irrelevance to Christian Doctrine, but also pointing out their weaknesses in terms of inner contradictions, irrelevance to avowed authorities’ thoughts as well as weak comprehensiveness. Vorotnetsy refers to both Holy Scripture and Doctors (namely Grigor Nyusatsi) as well as the theses highlighted by ancient philosophers. Meanwhile, in the last case, he uses some arguments in two senses. In one case, he uses these theses as arguments for his perspective, and in the other case, he criticizes them. Vorotnetsy especially rejects materialistic and schismatic perspectives on Soul considering that Soul is an independent, incorporeal, immortal, evermoving, rational, self-sufficient, moving, animating and ruling formation.
