Abstract

In the district, new states called emirates were established. Dvin was one of the emirates and played an active role in the regional affairs and international markets. The excavations carried out in the city since 1937 until nowadays have revealed a great amount of imported ceramics (in common, glazed and faience varieties), which serve as a source to elucidate the trade relations between Armenia and the neighboring countries. The investigation and detailed analysis of the subject brought the author to the following conclusions. Armenia had trade relations and imported pottery from Iran, Iraq, Syria, Egypt, Central Asia and China. It was noticed, that the imported pottery from the workshops of Samara (Iraq), Nishapour (Iran), Al-Mina (Syria) and Fustat (Egypt) arrived. Ceramics was brought to Dvin by trade routes mentioned above. Besides, these trade routes are mentioned in the Armenian written sources.
