Abstract

The journal “Hyusisapayl” (published in Moscow in 1858-1864) had a significant role in the avant-garde press of the time and the development of Armenian
social thought. Faithful to its title: “A daily journal about general enlightenment and education of the nation,” – this periodical had kept in its focus the problems concerning the organization of school activities, Armenian education, instruction, public education and so on during the whole period of its publication. In the circumstances of developing new economic relations and in terms of preservation and advancement of national identity the periodical emphasized the role of school considering it as the hearth of patriotic education that in its turn included the primary problem of native language teaching. The issues concerning the training of teachers, girls’ education, the creation of textbooks and educational programs, are carefully studied in “Hyusisapayl” journal.
