Abstract

Although Grigor Narekatsi seriously complained in his masterpiece that malicious people hurt him and embittered his life, no one has so far tried to find out what gossipaccusations the poet was speaking about. The article shows that besides complaining, the poet had by unique literary-artistic means reproduced all those gossips in his Book of Lamentations, Section 45. Moreover, the poet had, in the form of confessions, sincerely presented all those events that had happened to him in his life, giving rise to the rumors of his opponents. Parallelly, analysing such confessions and gossip-accusations present in the Book of Lamentations, the author of the article comes to the conclusion that the opponents and the enemies of the poet, with malicious considerations in mind,
interpreted some of the traits of his character, behavior, activity and practice in a distorted way, accusing him of propagating futile ideas, promoting sectarian movements, neglecting native traditions, perjury, intention to respond to evil deeds in an evil way, disrespect for the rules of the church hierarchy which were being violated, imposing his own views on others and other similar acts, which, unfortunately, had been crucial for the poet.
