Abstract

Discussing the use of words with the root վէր- (վիր-) (wound) in regard to the poet’s personality in Narekatsi’s “Book of Lamentations”, the author comes to the conclusion that before writing the book, the poet had become a victim of intrigues and slander, was subjected to unjust punishments and deprivation. Naturally, all these caused him deep pain and bitterness. That is the reason why together with the issues of sin and sinfulness, the motif of pain and resentment also sound throughout the “Book” without the correct perception and analysis of which it is hardly possible to correctly understand and appreciate the masterpiece.
