Abstract

The sociological linguistic direction, as well as in the main provisions of N. Marr’s “New Linguistic Doctrine” are reflected in G. Ghapantsyan’s views regarding language, speech and thought interrelation, as well as their perception. This does not mean, however, that the renowned Armenian linguist was merely repeating these ideas. He tried to work out a new approach by combining the “rational” seed of the two different concepts, but he did not fully succeed; in G. Ghapantsyan’s ideas the reflection of the “new doctrine” is particularly noticeable.
