Abstract
Our attention was attracted by a book found in the Lazarev archive (fund 108, case 96), which is kept in the Matenadaran after Mesrop Mashtots. It was printed in the Armenian and Russian languages and is called “Rules for the Free Admission of Pupils to the Lazarev Institute of Oriental Languages”. The article analyzes the rules and regulations for the admission to the free-of-charge education in the Lazarev Institute; it is stated that these rules were not only fair in their basis, but also created favorable conditions for a thorough education and for gaining a profound knowledge in the Lazarev Institute. The article also reveals the secret of gaining a profound knowledge in the Lazarev Institute. Equally important was also the emphasis on the social status of students.
