Abstract
In every society the burial rite belongs to the category of important rites of passage reflecting various spiritual, social and demographic aspects. The present article deals with the spatial and structural traits of Bronze and Iron Age burial grounds in the territory of Armenia, particularly the problem of the use of environmental factors (the location of the burial grounds on a hilltop, on a slope, along the gorges), as well as structural peculiarities (walls around the cemetery, altars, funerary paths and passages on the territory of the cemetery). Thus, beginning from the 3rd millennium BC, cemeteries have been viewed as stable, cult-ritual complexes being an integral part of the sacred landscape.
