Abstract

Only one text has been preserved written by a witness, Koryun – “The Life of Mashtots” regarding the issue of creation of the alphabet, which was one of the most important events in the history of Armenia. The degree of complience of textual information with the historical reality of the text can be revealed within textual reality through linguistic, psychological, logical analysis of the text. The problem of the «horizontal» relationship of the text and reality is automatically reduced to the “vertical” relationship of the text and time. The text of Mashtots’s pupil raises such logical issues, which raise doubts on the factual unconditionality of the writing and make us assume that the present day Armenian alphabet is, in fact, the old Armenian alphabet, which was brought back home from Daniel.
