Abstract

In 1921-1922, upon the Armeno-Georgian uncompromising border-territorial dispute, a new situation was created. On 6 November, 1921, the final agreement on the Armeno-Georgian border was signed in Tiflis, according to which the Lori Neutral Zone, with the exception of a few Armenian-populated border villages, reunited with Soviet Armenia. The Georgian side claimed that the demarcation of the border had got quite a different content and that a number of Armenian villages ˗ Jandar, Opret, Khozhorni, Berdadzor, Sadakhlo, etc., should remain within the borders of Soviet Georgia. New difficulties arose between Soviet Armenia and Soviet Georgia, concerning the issue of the reunification of Vorontsovka and Privolnoyi regions with Soviet Armenia, and there was also a tension in the issue of interstate border demarcation details, as Georgian authorities were not satisfied with the presumptive situation. Hence, they took advantage of the obvious internal support of the upper circles or the Caucasian Bureau of the Russian Communist (Bolshevik) Party’s Central Committee and confronted a new demarcation conflict. The Georgian side clearly made every possible effort to take new pieces of territories from Lori and annex them to Soviet Georgia.
