Abstract
Armenian historical and philosophical literature holds the opinion that Armenian medieval philosophy, especially the philosophy of Tatev School (the XIV century) was not scholastic; on the contrary it was directed against West European scholastic philosophy. As opposed to this opinion, it is suggested in the present article that the XIV century Armenian philosophy was scholastic, because a) the philosophy was established in the church school - Tatev University, founded by the senior clergy of the Church; b) the philosophy was based on Aristotle's ideas and defended the principles of the Christian religion and the doctrine of the Armenian church, c) the way of philosophizing of that century thinkers, their nature of making inquiries, their method of research and writing was scholastic, i.e. authoritarian, dogmatic and bookish. In this sense there was no difference between the philosophies of Tatev school and European (Catholic) thinkers established in Armenia.
