Abstract

In the history of relations between Armenia and the Diaspora 2 main periods are featured: the activity period of the Committee for cultural relations with Diaspora Armenians (established in 1964) and the activity period of Ministry of Diaspora of the Republic of Armenia (established in 2008). The main objectives of the Committee for cultural relations with Diaspora Armenians were: developing the relations with the Diaspora, introducing the lifestyle of Homeland, its achievements, science and culture to the Diaspora Armenians, spreading patriotism in the Diaspora Communities, presenting the situation in the Diaspora communities to the citizens of Armenia, establishing institutions and mechanisms of preserving national identity, as well as the process of developing Homeland-Diaspora relations. The main objectives of RA Ministry of Diaspora are: developing cooperation between Armenia and the Diaspora, assisting the ideological unity of Armenians, contributing the development of educational, scientific, cultural, economic, youth and sportive life of the Diaspora, as well as promoting the formation of the “Armenian world”. The research shows that both the Committee and the Ministry acted in three main directions: preserving the national identity among Diaspora Armenians; uniting the professional potential of the Diaspora; implementing projects promoting repatriation.
