Abstract
The Trabzon peace conference of 1918 clearly outlined the militaristic and expansionist policy of the Ottoman Empire against the nations living in that region for the sake of securing its safety from Russia’s territorial claims. Through diplomatic pressure and regional military occupations the Turkish delegation continued to impose its main demands, that is to solemnly declare Transcaucasia independent, to implicitly accept the Brest-Litovsk peace treaty, to immediately hand over Batumi, Ardahan, Kars with their provinces to the Ottoman Empire. During the conference the Turks rejected the autonomy of Western Armenia, considering it as interference in the internal affairs of Turkey.
