Abstract

Historical research is often based on actual cartographic data, which have reached to the present day from the ancient times. Europeans had a major contribution to the history of cartography and the study and dissemination of the cartographic monuments of the past, whose works, in fact, did not touch upon issues related to the study of the old maps of our region.

In the Patriotic historiography a very modest place is given to the study of Armenian and regional maps despite the fact we have got a rich heritage of the historical source of cartography. It should be noted that in this regard few countries can boast and compete with us. So, it is high time we came to fill the existing gap. Note also that the publication of the old collections of maps and files has not only cognitive and scientific but also political significance.
