Abstract

The article is an analysis and assessment of the Genocide survivor Hovakim Shahbazyan’s unpublished memoirs “Datvan”, which is still unknown to the scientific society. The detailed references brought from there show that it is a source of great importance on the Armenian Genocide, which not only reveals the destruction of the Armenian settlements in Khlat province, the massacres and deportation of the Armenian population, the unknown pages of Armenian self-defence, although not massive, explains the true circumstances of the martyrdom of a number of prominent figures of the Armenian National Liberation movement, but also allows to more substantially understand certain facets of the Turkish implementation mechanism of the Armenian Genocide
