Abstract

The article is devoted to the foreign policy of Turkey in regard to Armenia in the beginning of 1990s. The author examines the political, economic and international factors, which shaped the policy of Turkey vis-a-vis newly independent Armenia. The article focuses on identifying reasons of political preconditions, raised by Turkish leadership for establishing diplomatic relations and economic cooperation with Armenia. The first cases of political dialogue between Armenia and Turkey, bilateral diplomatic consultations are explored by the author in his work. G. Arshakyan draws attention to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and its impact on the Armenian-Turkish relations. The policy of Turkey on the conflict is assessed in the light of regional and international relations of the taken period.
