Abstract

The present publication summarizes four documents elucidating the Armenian massacres that took place in Bitlis and Diarbakir provinces in 1895. Three of those are the reports of Vardan Rev. Hakobyan – the eparchial vicar of Taron, to the Catholicos of All Armenians Mkrtich Khrimyan and Armenian Patriarch of Constantinople Matteos Izmirlyan and one sent to the latter is the writing of political and religious assemblies of the city of Mush. These documents have great significance as source study, as the authors of these documents not only impartially represent the situation existing there, the Armenian massacres, but also reveal the genocidal policy carried out by the Ottoman authorities. The published documents are stored in the National Archives of Republic of Armenia – the Illuminator Fund of Etchmiadzin Synod (N 56).
